Resumo

His initial background is in radiogenic-isotope geochemistry. He earned a PhD degree in Chile and France and completed postdoctoral research in Mexico and Brazil. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a consultant geologist in the mining industry. Since 2013, he has served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.Driven by a constant desire to learn, he has included small-angle scattering techniques (SAS) in his research toolbox since 2020. He now focuses on applying SAS to investigate microstructural properties relevant to applied geochemistry. This emphasis leads him to conduct interdisciplinary research using experimental approaches in large international facilities to characterise complex biogeochemical systems.He focuses his strongest professional interest on the microstructural and dynamic aspects of the uptake of heavy metals (HMs) and chalcogenide elements by biomaterials. He has led interdisciplinary teams at Advanced Photon Source (US, 2022), Sirius (Brazil, 2024), and the ISIS Neutron Muon Source (UK, 2024 and 2025). In the most recent neutron scattering experiments, his team studied the kinetics of metal-resistant bacteria in response to interactions with Hg and SiO2 NPs, providing insights into bacterial microstructure for bioremediation. Always basing his work on SAS, he plans to focus his future research on both bacterial refinement of heavy chalcogenides from mineral matrices (for industrial mining applications) and liposomes for HM removal from polluted organisms (with possible medical applications).
